Rules when Hiking in Aggtelek National Park
The National Park's primary responsibility is the protection, preservation and showcasing of the natural treasures within its territory. Please, assist our work by respecting the following rules:
• Do not disturb the peace of the forest by undue shouting and loud behaviour;
• Keep to the marked hiking trails;
• Do not litter;
• Memories of the natural wonders during your stay are best preserved in photos or publications available at our gift shops. Do not pick the flowers or collect animal specimens;
• Be extremely careful with open fires! Only light fires at specifically designated sites! Be diligent and keep the fire under control and supervision at all times;
• Camping outside of specifically designated areas in Aggtelek National Park is prohibited. Tents cannot be pitched without permission except at official camp grounds; and
• Wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the season. Waterproof hiking boots are recommended.
Rules when visiting the caves
Please assist us in preserving this unparalleled subterranean treasure by respecting the following rules:
• Only travel along the marked paths, and do not get left behind;
• Do not litter of smoke in the caves;
• Do not EVER touch any of the drip stones – the oily skin residue left behind will prevent the continuing growth and development of the formations;
• Breaking off or removing pieces of drip stones is strictly prohibited and carries large fines;
• Bringing animals into the caves is prohibited; and
• Appropriate warm clothing (always +10C in the caves) and hiking boots are recommended.
