On 6 December 1995, the caves of the Aggtelek and Slovak Karst were inscribed on the World Heritage List by decision of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.
According to the regulations of the World Heritage Convention, only the most outstanding, relatively intact natural values, the preservation of which can be ensured, can apply for the title of World Heritage.
Our caves and their formations are of paramount importance due to their extraordinary richness of form, complexity, relative integrity and concentration in a small area. In such complexity, caves do not occur anywhere in the temperate zone anywhere in the world.
Unfortunately, due to the current pandemic, the restrictions do not allow you to visit the caves, so we are waiting for everyone who is interested in a virtual walk with the help of a photo presentation prepared by caving expert Csaba Egri.
